ABOUT

Culture

(from the Latin cultura stemming from colere, meaning "to cultivate")

generally refers to patterns of human activity and the symbolic structures that give such activities significance and importance.

My photos are to help you cultivate, capture, and celebrate your culture.

(b.1975) I, Michelle Gutierrez, am a photographer based in San Francisco. I have covered various topics in Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela, and the US. When living in South America I worked on long-term projects about children, women, indigenous communities, culture, and those affected by exploitation of their land. Home in San Francisco at the moment with those close to my heart, I am working again with independent community journalism, women, children, culture, and against discrimination of any type. I am grateful to be turning my attention these days towards teaching photography and asking my students to express their identities and culture. Thank you for considering all of these things with me.
