Indigenous
INDIGENOUS (< LATIN [INDIGENOUS: 'ORIGINAL', 'NATIVE']) THE TERM GENERICALLY GIVEN TO ANY ETHNIC GROUP WHO INHABIT THE GEOGRAPHIC REGION WITH WHICH THEY HAVE THE EARLIEST HISTORICAL CONNECTION. INDÍGENA (< LATÍN [INDIGĔNA: 'ORIUNDO', 'NATIVO']) SE DA GENÉRICAMENTE EL NOMBRE INDÍGENA A TODO AQUELLO QUE ES RELATIVO A UNA POBLACIÓN ORIUNDA DEL TERRITORIO QUE HABITA. Indigenous peoples confront a diverse range of concerns. Their human rights continue to be abused in issues that include cultural and linguistic preservation, land rights, ownership, exploitation of natural resources, political determination/autonomy, environmental degradation/incursion, poverty, health, and discrimination. Approximately 350 million Indigenous people exist in the world today, making them less than 6% of the total world population. Indigenous communities possess an extraordinary wisdom of spiritual, cultural and environmental knowledge, however, the rights, claims and even identity of indigenous peoples disappear more and more each day.
